As with all other rural settings in New Brunswick, the Miramichi watershed has abundant failing septic systems that are resulting in "black water" point source discharges into surface water. In this project, formerly supported by the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund, MREAC assisted 71 households over the years of the program. The program ran from 1994 to 2008.
