CABIN

The Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) protocol, as developed by Environment Canada (EC), is now a nationally accepted and applied technique for assessing the biological condition of wadeable rivers. MREAC has been engaged in this protocol since 2004. The Miramichi has 20 established reference and test sites on major tributaries. This protocol requires regular maintenance through annual sampling of a sub-set of established sites to ensure validity as well as regular tracking for anthropogenic and/or climatic changes.

MREAC has on staff a CABIN certified Project Manager and Trainer. This allows MREAC to train students on the CABIN protocol at a Field Technician Assistant level.
